Judges are not supposed to belong to anyone. They are supposed to be accountable
only to the law and the constitution. But recent Wisconsin Supreme Court
elections have made it clear that wealthy special interests aim to take control of
state courts and bend justice to serve their purposes. We now have publicly
financed Supreme Court elections that enable elections, not auctions. Now, we
need to make sure judicial candidates are able to fight back against special interest
attacks. I support full disclosure of special interest electioneering and requirements that
interest groups follow the same campaign contribution limitations that candidates must obey,
putting candidates on a level playing field with these groups.
